Stop #1 - Basel Switzerland
We started off our week of traveling in Basel, Switzerland for my Tri Country Half Marathon. I have to mention that I picked a very expensive half marathon to do. We haven't really traveled in Switzerland other than a ski trip our first year living in Germany so I forgot how ridiculously expensive this country is! Thank goodness we were only there for one night & only ate 1 meal on the economy.
The race itself was fun. I do wish I did better but I really do have to give myself a pat on the back as I'm just 7+ months postpartum with a breastfeeding baby who just won't let go or let me sleep. I realized with kids, I just don't have the time to train properly and this is the first race I've done since my marathon over 4 years ago.
The race started off great but things went downhill for me around mile 9 (see my gps map). I was starting to feel some aches and pains. What had me slowing down the most was head - I just started getting mad at myself instead of staying positive when I started feeling a bit of pain. I'm typically not that way. Some reason on this day, during this race... I just became that person I dislike. YUCK! I need to work on that and get my mind straight when things aren't going perfectly during a run - race or not!
Truly thankful for my running partner, Dina, who did 4 long runs with me prior to this race, ran some short ones together while pushing the little ones, had her family link up with mine during the race to help navigate through the city & cheer for us, and most of all, run this race with me even when I was complaining about my body failing me then text me later, 'find our next race!'. LOL. Dina, you're an angel!
Anyway, here are some photos from our weekend in Basel.

Stop #2 - Garmisch for Andy's Medical Conference
Andy had a medical conference down in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at a military resort that we've stayed in several times - Edelweiss. We made it a family trip and had a relaxing time out there. Literally doing nothing more than eat, sleep, play in the pool, and relax while Andy was in conference. You can always count on an american resort to make things convenient and comfortable! ;)
Stop 3# - Salzburg & Berchtesgaden
After the medical conference, Andy had a 4-day weekend for memorial day so we continued our journey out to Salzburg, Austria & Berchtesgaden. The weather was pretty crummy but we pushed through as many sites as we could. Everything about these two areas were beautiful.
Unfortunately we did not have the time to do the 'Sound of Music' tour and we were unable to visit the salt mines (no children under 4 allowed). Oh well! We've learned pretty early on that we have to be flexible with kids!
First are some photos from my big boy camera followed by a few photos from Andy's panasonic. (Sorry husband, this time it was ruining my flow. Had to separate. Hah!)

Hitler's Eagles Nest
Konigssee Lake
Such a gorgeous lake to see. They say the water is so clean, you can drink out of it!
...and back to some more photos from the 'other' camera. Hah.
