The Birth Story
Around 2AM on Thursday morning, October 2nd, I woke up to use the bathroom. Nothing out of the ordinary as I've been waking up to use the bathroom several times a night during my pregnancy. As I was using the toilet, I went from a trickle to a small quick gush. I thought that was a little weird but couldn't figure it out because I was practically half asleep. After a phone call to the hospital and then another similar bathroom visit, I realized that my water broke!! We checked into L&D and that's where the long day of labor started...
My contractions started off light and irregular so we waited to see how my body would do on it's own. Around 12PM, I was started on pitocin to help get things rolling because my body was failing to progress on it's own. After I felt my first painful contraction, I immediately asked for an epidural. I have no idea how women go through labor naturally!! You ladies are tough!! Once the epidural kicked in, I couldn't even tell I was having a contraction and I even took a little nap! hehe.
At 7:30PM my OB stepped in and said it was time to start pushing! Thank goodness - I've been in labor for about 17 hours!! I think I pushed for a good 10 minutes or so. At 7:57PM, Addison Soonah Kim was delivered and placed into my arms. It's true what they say - it was love at first sight. She weighed in at 7 lbs 7 ounces and 19.3 inches tall.
There's nothing too dramatic about Addison's birth story but there are a couple cool things about her birth. One, she was born in Landstuhl, Germany (who gets to say that?!). Two, , my OB, Bart Staat, who delivered her was someone we can call a good friend. He has watched her grow over the past 9 months and cared for mommy through it all. During my pregnancy Bart was there to answer all my questions/concerns, whether it was through FB chat or a phone call (I must've been the most annoying patient as I always happened to catch him on vacation). I mean, who can Facebook message her OB to let him know at 4am that her water broke and then have him not only watch my labor status from his office but stay late after work hours to deliver Addison! We felt so blessed to have him as our OB during such an exciting yet terrifying time - he's definitely the best of the best. Thanks again Bart! We will be forever grateful! :)
Here are some pictures from the delivery room & our hospital stay.
There will be plenty more photos to come!!

Update again soon with how we're all doing at home.
**Big thank you to everyone who wrote, called, fb messaged, text messaged, etc... we are overwhelmed with love. It's definitely taking me awhile to respond to everyone (it took me 3 days to write this darn post) but hopefully I will get back to everyone soon!
