Stop #1 - Basel Switzerland
The race itself was fun. I do wish I did better but I really do have to give myself a pat on the back as I'm just 7+ months postpartum with a breastfeeding baby who just won't let go or let me sleep. I realized with kids, I just don't have the time to train properly and this is the first race I've done since my marathon over 4 years ago.
The race started off great but things went downhill for me around mile 9 (see my gps map). I was starting to feel some aches and pains. What had me slowing down the most was head - I just started getting mad at myself instead of staying positive when I started feeling a bit of pain. I'm typically not that way. Some reason on this day, during this race... I just became that person I dislike. YUCK! I need to work on that and get my mind straight when things aren't going perfectly during a run - race or not!
Truly thankful for my running partner, Dina, who did 4 long runs with me prior to this race, ran some short ones together while pushing the little ones, had her family link up with mine during the race to help navigate through the city & cheer for us, and most of all, run this race with me even when I was complaining about my body failing me then text me later, 'find our next race!'. LOL. Dina, you're an angel!
Anyway, here are some photos from our weekend in Basel.
Stop #2 - Garmisch for Andy's Medical Conference
Stop 3# - Salzburg & Berchtesgaden
Unfortunately we did not have the time to do the 'Sound of Music' tour and we were unable to visit the salt mines (no children under 4 allowed). Oh well! We've learned pretty early on that we have to be flexible with kids!
First are some photos from my big boy camera followed by a few photos from Andy's panasonic. (Sorry husband, this time it was ruining my flow. Had to separate. Hah!)
